Lemon verbena is extremely rich in bioactive substances. These include, among others: phenylpropanoids, the most important of which are verbascoside, flavonoids, terpineol, triterpenoids, polyphenol ingredients.

Lemon verbena (Aloysia citriodora), or trifoliate lippia, is characterized by a beautiful, citrus scent, which is due to the richness of essential oils. Its scent is very long-lasting, which is why lemon verbena is widely used not only in herbalism and cooking, but also in the perfume and cosmetics industry and in fragrance compositions. In the past, it was used to relieve the symptoms of colds, flu and asthma, as well as to relieve headaches and stomach aches.

Health-promoting properties:

Lemon verbena has a positive effect on mood and the functioning of the nervous system. For this reason, it is recommended in states of increased tension and stress, during intense mental work and in problems with falling asleep.
It contains compounds with antispasmodic properties, which help to relax painfully tense smooth muscles in the lower abdomen and around the temples.
It relieves digestive problems such as flatulence, heartburn and indigestion.
Supports proper liver function.

DOSAGE AND HOW TO USE:

The easiest way is to prepare an infusion from dried leaves. The aroma of lemon verbena is intense, so all you need is a pinch of dried herb and a few minutes of brewing under cover.
It is worth combining verbena with your favorite tea. It goes well with loose leaf teas, especially green ones, as well as herbal and fruit teas, and South Americans like to add it together with mint to yerba mate. You can also add ginger, lemongrass or some lemon, grapefruit or orange juice to the verbena infusion.

Dried lemon verbena leaves are worth trying in the kitchen. They are perfect for seasoning fish, poultry and meat.
You can sprinkle them on salad, boiled potatoes or other vegetables, as well as cooked rice or groats just before serving. Added to sauce, mayonnaise, vinegar or olive oil, they will give them a citrus scent and a pleasant, fresh aroma.
They also go well with yogurt and pesto and with various types of fillings. Lemon verbena is perfect for desserts, jams and fruit salads. It is worth adding it to baking cake or bread.
A strong infusion of verbena can be used to prepare an aromatic bath. If you wish, you can also add lavender and rosemary to the infusion, which together with verbena create a beautiful fragrance composition.
